Shakti Peethas

About Shakti Peethas

Shakti Peethas is a directory of sacred Hindu pilgrimage sites dedicated to Goddess Shakti, the divine feminine power. It is built to help pilgrims, students, and researchers find temples by name, place, Devi, Bhairava, and traditional list.

What this site covers

Each entry gathers the Peetha and temple name, the form of the Goddess worshipped there, the corresponding Bhairava form of Shiva, the associated body part or ornament in tradition, and the location down to country, state, district, and town where those details are known.

You can browse the complete list of Peethas, explore sites by place, or open traditional lists such as the Adi Shakta Pithas and Ashtadasha Shakti Peethas. The working catalogue currently includes 116 sacred sites.

How lists are treated

Different Hindu texts and regional traditions preserve different lists of Shakti Peethas. They may differ in the body parts counted, inclusion of ornaments, identification of locations, and distinction between principal, subsidiary, and related Peethas. Therefore, no single total is universally accepted.

This site presents a working catalogue from the records in our database. Counts on list pages follow those records and may not match the traditional name of a list.
