Shree Chamundeshwari Devi Devasthana
Shri Chamundeshwari Temple Road, Chamundi Hill, Chamundibetta, Karnataka 570010
Chamundeshwari Temple crowns Chamundi Hill above Mysuru and is dedicated to the city's tutelary goddess. The shrine is closely connected with Mysuru Dasara and is identified in later tradition with Krouncha Peetha.

Shree Chamundeshwari Temple crowns Chamundi Hill above Mysuru in Karnataka. Dedicated to Chamundeshwari, the tutelary goddess of Mysuru, the shrine is closely connected with the city’s identity and the royal Wadiyar tradition. The goddess is revered as the fierce Durga who defeated Mahishasura, the buffalo demon from whom Mysuru’s traditional name is derived. The hilltop complex offers wide views over the city, while the route also includes a monumental Nandi image and other sacred landmarks.
Later Shakti Peetha traditions associate the temple with Krouncha Peetha and state that Sati’s hair fell here. The goddess is identified as Chamundeshwari. A dependable associated Bhairava name has not been verified in the present database. Since the connection between the modern Chamundi Hill temple and Krouncha Peetha is not uniform in principal classical enumerations, it should be presented as a later or regional identification rather than an uncontested fact.
Mysuru Dasara is the temple’s most famous cultural and religious association. The festivities traditionally begin with worship of Chamundeshwari and celebrate her victory over Mahishasura. Ashada Shukravara, the auspicious Fridays of the Ashada month, brings especially heavy pilgrimage to the hill, while Navratri is also important. The temple’s enduring significance combines royal patronage, living goddess worship, the Mahishasura legend and its commanding place above Mysuru.
Krouncha tradition associates Sati's hair with the Peetha and identifies Chamundeshwari as the goddess. The modern Chamundi Hill temple is linked with this account in later lists, but a Bhairava name is not verified in the spreadsheet. The identification should be presented with this source limitation.
