Mansa Devi Shakti Peetha

Shri Mata Mansa Devi Temple stands at the Shivalik foothills in Panchkula, Haryana. The present main shrine was built by Maharaja Gopal Singh of Manimajra between 1811 and 1815. A second major structure, commonly called the Patiala Temple, was built nearby by Maharaja Karam Singh of Patiala in 1840. Together they form the historic Mansa Devi complex, now administered by the Shri Mata Mansa Devi Shrine Board. The goddess is revered as the fulfiller of sincere wishes and a protective mother.

Regional tradition sometimes describes the temple as a Shakti Peetha where Sati’s forehead or the front portion of her head fell. The presiding deity is Mansa Devi. A specific associated Bhairava has not been reliably established for this entry. Because the forehead attribution is not consistently found in the principal classical Shakti Peetha lists, it should be identified as a regional or later tradition rather than stated as universal textual consensus.

The Chaitra Navratri and Ashwin Navratri melas are the most important annual celebrations. During these periods, the shrine board arranges expanded facilities, security and devotional services for large numbers of pilgrims. Daily aarti, bhog, chola offerings and community kitchens support the temple’s year-round ritual life. The shrine’s significance rests on its documented nineteenth-century patronage, active public administration and central role in the Shakti worship of the Chandigarh–Panchkula region.
