Chintpurni Shakti Peetha

Shri Mata Chintpurni Ji Temple is situated in Una district, Himachal Pradesh, in the Shivalik hills near the Punjab border. The goddess is worshipped as Chintpurni, the divine mother who removes worries, and as Chhinnamastika, a powerful Tantric form of Shakti. Local tradition credits the establishment of the shrine to the devotee Mai Das. Over time the settlement around the temple took the deity’s name and developed into one of northern India’s busiest goddess pilgrimage towns. The temple is administered by a public trust under the district authorities.

Regional Shakti Peetha tradition associates Chintpurni with Sati’s feet. The presiding goddess is identified as Chhinnamastika Devi, while Rudra Mahadev is honoured as the corresponding Bhairava. This body-part attribution is prominent in the Himachal pilgrimage tradition but is not uniform across all principal classical Peetha enumerations. It should therefore remain clearly described as the received regional identification.

Chaitra Navratri, Shravan Ashtami and Ashwin Navratri are the largest pilgrimage periods. Fairs, extended darshan arrangements, devotional singing and community services support the heavy flow of worshippers. Pilgrims frequently include Chintpurni with Jwala Ji, Bajreshwari, Chamunda and Naina Devi in a multi-temple journey. The shrine’s importance comes from its living Chhinnamastika worship, its reputation for relieving devotees’ anxieties and its central role in Himachal Pradesh’s Devi circuit.
