Danteshwari Shakti Peetha

Danteshwari Temple is located at Dantewada in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh, near the confluence of the Dankini and Shankini rivers. The goddess Danteshwari is revered as the tutelary deity of the former Bastar kingdom and remains central to the religious identity of communities across the region. Temple tradition connects the shrine with the Kakatiya rulers who established authority in Bastar, while the complex visible today reflects successive periods of patronage, repair and ritual use. The approach through several courtyards leads to the inner sanctum, where the goddess is worshipped with great reverence.

According to the Shakti Peetha tradition followed in this database, a tooth or the teeth of Sati fell at this place, giving the goddess the name Danteshwari. The associated guardian is identified locally as Bhairam Baba.
