Karatoyatata Shakti Peetha

Aparna Shaktipeeth at Bhabanipur is a historic Hindu pilgrimage complex in Sherpur Upazila of Bogura District, Bangladesh. It is associated with the sacred landscape of Karatoyatata, named for the Karatoya River tradition, and is widely accepted as the modern location of this Peetha. The complex contains the principal Goddess shrine along with Shiva temples, a Bhairava shrine and other places of worship, making it an active centre for local devotees and visiting pilgrims.

The Goddess is worshipped as Aparna, also locally associated with Maa Bhavani, and the corresponding Bhairava is Vamana or Vamesha. Accounts of the fallen element differ significantly: traditions mention Sati’s left ear, talpa or bedding, and gulpha or ankle. Because no single version is universal, the database preserves these variants rather than selecting one as conclusively correct. Regular worship includes offerings, bhog and arati.
