Prayaga Shakti Peetha

Lalita Devi Mandir at Meerapur is one of Prayagraj’s principal Goddess temples and a prominent local identification of Prayaga Shakti Peetha. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Lalita and is part of the city’s wider network of Devi temples, which also includes Kalyani Devi and Alopi Devi. Pilgrims often combine worship here with a visit to the Triveni Sangam and other sacred places associated with Prayag’s ancient status as a major tirtha.

According to the tradition recorded in this database, Sati’s fingers of the hand fell in the Prayaga region. The Goddess is Lalita and the corresponding Bhairava is Bhava. The Meerapur temple is a strong living claimant to this tradition, but it is not the only proposed location. Alopi Devi, Kalyani Devi and the Sangam are also identified with Prayaga Peetha in different local and later accounts. The site should therefore be described as a prominent identification rather than the only universally accepted one.

Navratri is the temple’s principal festival season, bringing extended worship and increased attendance. Pilgrimage across Prayagraj also rises sharply during the annual Magh Mela and periodic Kumbh gatherings, even though those events are centred on bathing at the Sangam. Lalita Devi Mandir’s importance comes from continuous local worship, its association with the Lalita–Bhava pairing and its established place within the layered sacred geography of Prayagraj.
