Maa Vindhyavasini Temple at Vindhyachal is one of North India’s most important centres of Goddess worship. Located near the Ganga in Mirzapur District, the shrine is dedicated to Vindhyavasini, the Goddess believed to reside in the Vindhya region. It anchors the celebrated Trikon Parikrama, whose other principal stops are Kali Khoh and Ashtabhuja. This compact circuit draws pilgrims throughout the year and becomes exceptionally busy during the two Navratri seasons.

The database identifies the site with Vindhyashekhara Peetha. In this tradition, Sati’s left toe, or vama-padanguli, fell here; the Goddess is Vindhyavasini and the associated Bhairava is Punyabhajana. Not every classical Shakti Peetha list uses this exact place-name, body-part and Bhairava pairing. The attribution should therefore remain qualified while the temple’s independent status as a major living Devi centre is stated clearly.

Chaitra Navratri and Sharad Navratri bring enormous fairs, extended darshan arrangements and heavy pilgrim movement across Vindhyachal. The Kajali festival is another important regional celebration. Many devotees complete the Trikon Parikrama by visiting Vindhyavasini, Kali Khoh and Ashtabhuja in sequence. The temple’s strong ritual continuity, accessible location near Vindhyachal railway station and role as the centre of a recognised Devi circuit make it a major Shakta pilgrimage destination even where textual classifications vary.

Note on the body part

Vindhyashekhara tradition associates Sati's left toe, vama-padanguli, with the Peetha and names Vindhyavasini with Bhairava Punyabhajana. The Vindhyachal shrine is a major Devi centre, but not every classical list uses this exact Peetha name or pairing. The attribution therefore needs qualification.

Notes

1. For the dteails of Peetha, Body parts, Devi, Bhairava we primarily used the book The Shakta Pithas by Dr. Dines Chandra Sircar (D. C. Sircar), and secondaryly used the book 108 Divya Shaktipeethas by Banwari Lal Kanchhal. 2. This Shaktipeeth is mentioned in the list of the Pithas (Mahapithas) in the Shivacharita
