Shrinkhala Devi Peetha is traditionally placed at Pandua in Hooghly District, West Bengal, but the ancient Goddess temple is no longer extant. The geographical tradition is now discussed in relation to Pandua’s surviving medieval monuments rather than an active, securely identified shrine. This makes the entry fundamentally different from a living temple with continuous documented worship and requires especially careful wording.

The Peetha is recorded as Shrinkhala, with Pradyumna and Bhavatarini appearing as alternate names in later accounts. Tradition associates Sati’s stomach, abdomen or girdle region with the site and names the Goddess Shrinkhala Devi, also written Srunkhala or Shrunkala. A dependable Bhairava name has not been verified. Because the original temple was destroyed or disappeared centuries ago and the exact location is uncertain, present-day monuments such as the Minar of Pandua or Bari Masjid should not be labelled as the Goddess temple itself.

Navratri is traditionally associated with Shrinkhala worship, but no surviving ancient shrine or dependable temple-specific festival calendar has been established. Visitors may explore Pandua as a historic site, yet they should understand that this is not equivalent to visiting an intact Peetha temple. The database entry preserves an important textual and regional memory while clearly separating tradition, archaeological landscape and currently verifiable physical remains.

Note on the body part

Shrinkhala tradition associates Sati's stomach or girdle region with the Peetha and names Shrinkhala Devi. The ancient temple at Pandua is no longer extant, and the site is associated with later monuments. A dependable Bhairava name and exact surviving shrine are not verified, so claims require caution.

Notes

1. The original temple was destroyed in the 14th century. The historical ruins and doors display distinct Hindu architectural patterns underneath the medieval additions.
