Tara Chandi Shakti Peetha

Maa Tara Chandi Temple stands near Sasaram in Rohtas district, Bihar, in a natural cave setting against the Kaimur hills. The shrine is one of the best-known centres of goddess worship in the district. An inscription associated with the twelfth-century ruler Pratap Dhavaladeva survives near the sacred area, providing important historical evidence for the site’s medieval religious significance. The principal image is worshipped as Tara Chandi, a powerful form of the Divine Mother.

According to the regional Shakti Peetha tradition recorded in this database, Sati’s right eye is believed to have fallen here. The goddess is consequently revered as Tara Chandi or Tara.
